Cozy Up with New November Science Lessons

As the weather cools and routines settle, it’s the perfect time to bring fresh energy into your classroom. Our November Science Lessons are all about helping teachers explore real-world energy systems in ways that connect science and student curiosity.

This month, we’re highlighting three brand-new, teacher-created lessons designed to save prep time while deepening student understanding of energy in action. And just like your favorite Thanksgiving leftovers, there’s more coming soon! Keep an eye out for our upcoming Thanksgiving-themed resource on waste and biofuels, arriving later this month.

What’s Inside the November Resource Drop

These new energy lessons explore how we use and produce energy, from deep within the Earth to the crops we grow.

1. Science of Biofuels
Students investigate how biofuels are made, compare feedstocks, and explore how plant-based fuels can power our future.

2. Science of Geothermal
Take your students beneath the surface! This lesson uncovers how Earth’s heat can provide power, linking geology and energy transfer.

3. Energy Demand and Scale
From a single household to entire nations, students explore how energy use scales and impacts decisions. This data-driven lesson connects energy systems to global challenges.

How to Use These Lessons in Your Classroom

Each of these free November science lessons can easily fit into your energy or science units, all while saving you prep time:

  • Pair the Science of Biofuels with lessons on agriculture or environmental systems, just in time for fall harvest!
  • Have students investigate how heat moves through different materials in the Science of Geothermal lab, a fun activity to get your students exploring energy firsthand.
  • Challenge students to think deeper with the Energy Demand and Scale Claim-Evidence-Reasoning activity.
  • Extend the conversation later this month with our Thanksgiving-themed waste and biofuels lesson, a fun seasonal tie-in that explores how energy connects to everyday life.

All lessons include ready-to-use materials, hands-on activities, and full curriculum alignments to NGSS and state standards, so you can teach confidently and creatively.

Coming Soon: Thanksgiving Science on Waste and Biofuels

This November, we’re adding a special holiday resource that explores waste and biofuels through the lens of Thanksgiving. It’s the perfect way to connect seasonal themes to real-world science.
