Energy Demand and Scale – CER Activity

Summary

Students use the Claim-Evidence-Reasoning framework to argue whether managing electricity demand should be prioritized alongside building new power plants. Seven structured steps move from claim writing through counterclaim, rebuttal, real-world connection, and a visual extension where students sketch and annotate their own demand curve. Works well for high school Earth and Environmental Science or APES, and pairs directly with SC’s Demand Curve, Scale, and Introduction to Efficiency videos.
