Meet Our New Teacher Advisory Council Member: Carrie Antoniazzi
One of our favorite parts of building Switch Classroom is getting to work alongside incredible teachers from all over. Today, we’re excited to introduce a new member of our Teacher Advisory Council: Carrie Antoniazzi, a science teacher from Squamish, British Columbia.
If you’ve ever taught in a place where mountains, oceans, and outdoor learning are part of daily life, you’ll feel right at home with Carrie’s perspective.
A Classroom Teacher Through and Through
Carrie teaches French Immersion science at École les Aiglons in Squamish, BC, where inquiry, environmental connections, and real-world science are woven into everyday learning. We first met Carrie at the BC Science Teachers’ Association conference this fall, and it didn’t take long to notice her energy, thoughtfulness, and deep commitment to science education.
She’s the kind of teacher who thinks about curriculum and community…how lessons land with students, how science connects beyond the classroom, and how teachers can support each other along the way.
Deeply Connected to the Science Teaching Community
Carrie is actively involved in science education both locally and globally. Her work spans classroom teaching, professional learning, and science communication, which makes her voice an especially valuable addition to our advisory council.
Some highlights from her work include:
- Grosvenor Teacher Fellow (National Geographic, 2023)
- Bimini Shark Lab Educator Scholarship recipient (2024)
- National Geographic Certified Educator
- Communications Officer & Social Media Coordinator for the BC Science Teachers’ Association (BCSTA)
- Parlons Sciences Visionary Educator (Let’s Talk Science)
She also maintains a fantastic professional portfolio that showcases her projects and teaching philosophy. If you’re curious, it’s well worth a look: Carrie’s Portfolio
Why We’re Excited to Learn With Carrie
As part of the Teacher Advisory Council, Carrie will help us:
- Expand our support for teachers across British Columbia
- Bring a stronger Canadian perspective into our resources
- Continue shaping lessons that feel realistic, flexible, and classroom-tested
Her insight will help ensure our resources reflect the realities of diverse classrooms and learning communities, especially those where language, place-based learning, and environmental science intersect.
Welcome to the Team, Carrie
We’re incredibly grateful to work alongside teachers like Carrie, who are thoughtful about their practice and generous with their expertise. You’ll be seeing more of her influence across Switch Classroom in the months ahead, and we’re excited for what we’ll build together.
Welcome, Carrie. We’re so glad you’re here!
