Meet Meghan Polowin: Ottawa Science Teacher and TAC Member

We’re excited to welcome Meghan Polowin to the Switch Classroom Teacher Advisory Council!

Carrie, one of our BC TAC members, connected us with Meghan after joining the council herself earlier this year. It turns out that great teachers know great teachers.

Connected to the Ontario Science Community

Meghan teaches Grade 7 and 8 science at Fisher Park Public School in Ottawa, Ontario, where seven of her eight science classes are taught in French Immersion. She’s been in the classroom for over a decade, and in that time, she’s become an accomplished science educator in the province.

Meghan is also woven into the fabric of science education across Ontario. A few of her highlights are:

  • Elementary Chair, Science Teachers Association of Ontario
  • Science Committee Chair, Ottawa-Carleton Elementary Teachers Federation
  • Let’s Talk Science Regional Teacher Leader and SDG Community Lead for Canada
  • National Geographic Certified Educator
  • Teach Sustainable Development Goals Global Ambassador
  • Innovative Teaching Award recipient, Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (2026)

She’s also appeared on CBC Ottawa and CTV News, presented at STAO multiple years running, and brought 25 students to meet the Artemis II crew and the Prime Minister of Canada. Yes, you read that right!

Why We’re Excited to Learn With Meghan

Meghan is intentional in thinking about what a resource actually needs to do. She put it plainly in her TAC application: she focuses on making materials flexible, simple to use, and adaptable for different learning levels, because that’s what teachers and students actually need.

She also teaches one class to a General Learning Program, which means she’s designing for a wider range of learners every single day. We’re excited about how her perspective will make Switch Classroom resources better.

Switch Classroom is focused on building more support for Ontario teachers and the Canadian curriculum. Meghan’s deep roots in the Ottawa-Carleton school system, combined with her provincial and national reach, make her exactly the kind of voice we needed at the table.

Welcome to the Team, Meghan

You’ll be seeing her influence on Switch Classroom resources in the months ahead, and we’re excited for what we’ll build together.

Welcome, Meghan. We’re so glad you’re here!
