National Energy Issues Debate

Students research and debate real national energy policy questions, from pipeline approvals to nuclear capacity to fossil fuel regulation, using a structured two-part format that covers both the research phase and the live debate. The lesson includes a teacher guide with facilitation notes, a student debate planner, and an example rubric. An optional civic action extension has students write position letters to elected officials. Works across high school science, social studies, and CTE courses where energy policy, argumentation, and evidence-based reasoning intersect.
