Summary
Welcome to Sunshine and Science Volume 3!
This year’s packet has six hands-on energy labs for kids ages 7-12, built for summer at home, summer camps, or anywhere a curious kid has about 30 minutes. Most materials are already around the house.

Kids poke holes in bottles to feel water pressure firsthand. They blow cocoa powder through a shoebox to see what an air filter really does. They watch a balloon inflate on its own while yeast eats sugar and releases gas. They bury warm water underground and track what the soil does to it. They build a floating wind turbine and test it against waves. They calculate how efficient their kettle actually is.
Every lab includes a quick “why it works” explanation and a Push It Further challenge for kids who want to keep going. The Brain Boosters section adds puzzles, riddles, conversation cards, and a Summer Energy Bingo card that the whole family can work through together over the season.
For teachers and camp counselors: each lab in the packet has a full classroom version with data tables, analysis questions, and extended readings. They work well for end-of-year activities, summer enrichment programs, or just sending home with a family you think would go for it.
Have fun!
