BC – Social Studies 10 Alignment Guide
The Switch Classroom BC Social Studies 10 curriculum alignment guide connects lessons and activities directly to the provincial standards. Each activity is mapped to competencies such as questioning and predicting, processing and analyzing data, planning and conducting, applying and innovating, evaluating, and communicating. This structure helps teachers show alignment while supporting student growth in data literacy and critical thinking.
The guide highlights how Switch Classroom lessons align with both science and social studies content areas. Science topics include energy transfer and conservation, electricity, and environmental impact. Social studies areas include resource development and use, human–environment interactions, and decision-making and public policy.
Featured activities include the Energy Mix video, which introduces trends in global energy and the influence of government policy; the Energy Choices hands-on activity, where students explore the factors that shape decision-making; and the Demand Curve video, which shows how baseline and peak demand affect energy planning. In addition, the Environmental Impacts data set encourages students to analyze and reflect on how energy use affects communities and resources.
The BC Social Studies 10 curriculum alignment guide gives teachers a clear framework to integrate Switch Classroom lessons into required learning outcomes while making complex issues accessible for students.
