Powering Curiosity: Teaching Energy Efficiency Through Real-World STEM

Event Description:
Switch Classroom is teaming up with The Science House at NC State for Powering Curiosity, a free full-day workshop at the Mountain Horticultural Crops Research and Extension Center in Mills River, North Carolina. The workshop is built for grades 6–12 classroom teachers, STEM educators, instructional coaches, and curriculum specialists who want hands-on ways to teach energy concepts while meeting science standards.
The workshop will be led by Ruthann McComb, a North Carolina science teacher and Switch Classroom team member. Participants will explore the science of energy efficiency and building design, tour a LEED-certified building, and work through classroom-ready Switch Classroom investigations, including:
- Innovative Building Design research project
- Family Energy Awareness Challenge and home electricity audit
- Investigating Passive Solar Heating lab
The workshop runs from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, and registration is free. Apply now through The Science House.
