Event Description

Switch Classroom will participate in the Earth Science for Society (ESfS) Exhibition in Calgary, Alberta, a free, family-friendly event organized by the Canadian Society of Exploration Geophysicists (CSEG) Foundation.

At ESfS, Switch Classroom will host an interactive, hands-on energy exploration exhibit that invites visitors to explore how energy from the Earth is transformed into electricity and used in everyday life. The exhibit is designed for flexible participation and is accessible to a wide range of ages.

Visitors will engage with two connected Switch Classroom activities:

  • Play-Doh Electric Circuits Lab – Participants build simple electric circuits using Play-Doh, LEDs, and batteries to explore how electricity flows and how different materials conduct electricity.
  • Wind Energy Engineering Challenge – Participants design, build, and test small windmills using recycled materials, investigating how wind energy can be converted into electricity through engineering design.

Together, these activities demonstrate the full energy pathway, from energy source to electricity generation to end use.

Switch Classroom will also provide educator resource materials that support continued learning beyond the event, with a focus on energy sources, transformations, and trade-offs.
