Experimental Design Form

In this activity, you will use the engineering design process to design, build, and test a model wind turbine. Your goal is to create a turbine that can lift a medicine cup using wind energy as efficiently as possible.

Question (ASK)

The challenge is to lift the medicine cup as fast as possible.
Write a question about how one design feature will affect how quickly your turbine lifts the cup.

Research (IMAGINE)

Sketch your design below and label the materials you plan to use.

Hypothesis (PLAN)

Formulate a hypothesis, explaining how your design feature will affect the time it takes to lift the cup, and explain why. Use the format [If . . . then . . . because]. Your hypothesis should predict a measurable outcome (e.g., time to lift).

Test (CREATE and TEST)

Build your wind turbine based on your research. Then, test your wind turbine and record the results.

Analysis (IMPROVE)

Did your results support your hypothesis? Why or why not?

How could you improve your design to get better results?
