Science of Natural Gas – Computation

Summary

This natural gas computation activity challenges students to use real-world data to calculate the costs and energy use of heating a house with natural gas. High school students will calculate natural gas needs in thousand cubic feet (mcf), determine the cost based on furnace efficiency, and analyze the savings from upgrading to a more efficient furnace. This quantitative exercise reinforces concepts of energy efficiency and cost-benefit analysis.
