Science of Energy Storage – Data Set

Summary

Students analyze a DOE-sourced dual-panel chart showing the growth of energy storage installations by technology type from 1970 to 2023, measured by both rated power and rated capacity. Five open-ended questions ask students to interpret trends, evaluate data limitations, and reason about trade-offs in storage technology mix. Works well as a graph analysis activity for a high school energy unit, APES Unit 6, or an earth and environmental science course.
