Science of Energy Efficiency – Bell Ringer

Summary

Students respond to one of three bell ringer prompts that build from defining energy efficiency to exploring real-world examples and tracing connections to carbon emissions. Designed for a quick warm-up at the start of an energy efficiency unit, the prompts work across high school earth science, APES, or any course covering energy systems and environmental impact.

In your own words, what is energy efficiency? What does it mean if a technology is energy-efficient?

Give one or two examples of energy-efficient technologies. Explain how they work.

How could an energy-efficient technology reduce carbon emissions? Give an example.
